La Carboneria wins Grand Prize at ADF Design Award 2024

The rehabilitation of `La Carbonería´ in Barcelona, by Angel Borrego Cubero/ Office for Strategic Spaces, has been honored with the Gran Prize at the ADF Design Award 2024.

The recipients of the ADF 2024 Excellence Awards are Takashige Yamashita Office and NOA kankyo SEKKEI Office.

The projects of the three winners will be showcased at the upcoming Milan Design Week from April 16th to 21st, 2024 in a joint exhibition of the non profit ADF with Milan Architects Association Best Graduation Award for Polytechnic University of Milan students and the works of the interior design firm Garde Italy at Garde Italy showroom (Via Tortona, 37)

The ADF Design Award, organized annually since 2010 by the non profit Aoyama Design Forum of Japan, aims to support designers from Japan and around the world. The Gran Prize includes a $30,000 stipend and public exposure activities.

The jury for the 2024 edition consisted of five members: Suzy Annetta, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Design Anthology;  architect Delfina Scotto of Stamuli; architect  Fernando Menis ; architect Lorenzo Bini, a member of the Council of the Milan Architects Association and founder of Binocle; and William Potts, Design Director of the creative studio NR2154.

La Carbonería, EU Mies Award Nominee

Our rehabilitation project of La Carboneria (Casa Tarrago) is one of the 29 Spain-based nominees to the 2024 EU MIES AWARD ( European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2024), and the only rehabilitation of a housing estate.

This year’s jury is chaired by Frédéric Druot (Paris/Bordeaux), who will be accompanied by Martin Braathen (Oslo), Pippo Ciorra (Rome), Tinatin Gurgenidze (Tbilisi/Berlin), Adriana Krnáčová (Prague), Sala Makumbundu (Luxembourg), and Hrvoje Njiric (Zagreb).

The 2024 EUmies Award recognize the best built works in Europe completed between April 2021 and May 2023. The 2024 cycle reflects on the current challenges that citizens, architects, clients, developers, policymakers and other professionals are faced with in the context of the European Green Deal.

The EUmies Awards began its 18th cycle in May 2023, with a network of expert nominators and architecture associations from throughout Europe who submitted 362 projects for the jury’s consideration. The jury will now select 40 outstanding projects and then visit the finalists.

The “EU Mies Award 2024” exhibition, showcasing the finest architectural achievements from across Europe over the past 2 years, will run from May 14th until June 16th, 2024, at Palau Victòria Eugènia (Pl. Carles Buïgas, 7, Montjuic) in Barcelona.

La Carboneria, shortlisted at the XVI Spanish Biennial of Architecture

Our project  “The Rehabilitation of La Carbonería” has been shortlisted in the XVI Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. The Jury has selected 126 out of the 524 entries presented in the “Built” category.

USS In show at exhibition HINCHABLES

Urban Space Station (USS), a project by Angel Borrego Cubero and Natalie Jeremijenko is part of the exhibition  “HINCHABLES, La Galería. Arquitectura, Arte y Diseño español”, an eclectic collection of projects of different scales, with different objectives, made from different parts of the world by Spanish authors throughout the 21st century with a common denominator: The use of air as a structural key, theme and generating element. The exhibition opens on November 16, at the Architecture Centre Las Arquerías de los Nuevos Ministerios in Madrid and has been curated by Carmen Blasco, Carmelo Rodríguez Cedillo, Ángela Gayol, ESPACIO LANUBE, Luis de LaMadrid. A catalog edited by Con Arquitectura, accompanies the exhibition.

Finalist at the 13th Spanish Architecture Biennale

Factoría Cultural en el Matadero Madrid (Cultural Factory at the Contemporary Art Center El Matadero) is one of the 20 shortlisted buildings at the XIII Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo. Factoria Cultural won the Award COAM’15 with Special Mention

Ángel Borrego Cubero has been awarded the COAM Award’15 with Special Mention for his work Factoría Cultural, an creative industries hub at Matadero Madrid. The Awards COAM are annually given by the Architects’ Association from Madrid to the best architecture achievements in the region of Madrid. See here the awarded works.
